01 — Why this study?
From measurement to national impact.
The study goes beyond counting cases. It links lung function patterns with symptoms, smoking, and environmental and occupational exposures to inform prevention and health planning.
Measure prevalence
Estimate the prevalence of major lung function patterns in a diverse population sample representing Jordanian communities.
Identify risk factors
Examine associations with smoking, household, environmental and occupational exposures, and comorbidities.
Build for the future
Create a high-quality national dataset to support research, health policy, and potential longitudinal follow-up.

Estimate the population prevalence of airflow obstruction using spirometry and reference limits appropriate for age, sex, and height.
02 — How will we work?
Household by household. Breath by breath.
A population-based cross-sectional design using household cluster sampling across urban and rural communities, with standardised measurement from fieldwork to analysis.

A safe startEligibility and consent
Confirm eligibility and screen for spirometry contraindications, then explain the study and document informed consent before any measurement.
Guiding principleA number alone does not make a valid result.
Manoeuvre quality, the flow–volume curve, and repeatability are reviewed before any measurement enters the final analysis.
